Sodium chloride is a small white cubic crystals which are transparent and colorless. Sodium chloride is odorless but has a very distinguished taste. It is an ionic compound, being made up of equal numbers of positively charged sodium and negatively charged chloride ions . When it is melted or dissolved in water the ions can move about freely, so that dissolved sodium chloride is a conductor of electricity.

Sodium chloride is a necessary component of human health, and it commonly know as salt. It is meant to be consumed in minimal quantities and provides the body with electrolytes and helps muscles relax. When consumed in large amounts, it may result in unwanted health problems such as high blood pressure.

Most often, sodium chloride is found in the crystalline form known as table salt. Certain types of table salt may have slightly differing levels of sodium and chloride. Sea salt, for example, is usually lower in sodium. Processed foods, cured meats, jarred sauces and condiments, snack foods, and canned goods tend to be particularly high in sodium chloride.

The physical and cemical properties of sodium chloride include:

White crystals. Odor: Odorless. Solubility: 36g/100cc water @ 20C (68F) Specific Gravity: 2.16 pH: 6.7 - 7.3 (aqueous solution) % Volatiles by volume @ 21C (70F): 0 1413C (2575F) Melting Point: 801C (1474F)

This particular element seemed to attract my attention because I found it extreamly surprising for it to be able to be consumed. Elements are most likely harmful to the body and should be anything but consumed by the human body and I found it facinating. Researching this element was extreamly interesting and this knowledge won't fade from my memory. Altogether Sodium Chloride is an extreamly interesting element and I enjoyed researching it.
